SCRÙBI
Jake & Anita developed ‘Scrùbi’ in 2020 as a way to explore and share other peoples stories. They wanted to engage meaningfully with the emotion of these experiences.
A ‘Scrùbi’ is a piece of art created by a participant following specific instructions — a secret way to express a subconscious emotional state through art, or to share a secret without saying a thing!
This art is then interpreted in performance through guitar and dance - integrating Jake and Anita’s dialectic system of creating original music and choreography. The Scrùbi performance can be likened to a sonic-motion caricature.
PERFORMANCE OPTIONS
‘Scrùbi’ is well suited for festivals, and can also be hired for private events where interaction between performers and audience is desired.
Perfect for a holiday programme or in school learning Jake & Anita have developed the ‘Scrùbi’ Workshop’ where kids get to watch a performance and get involved in the process of drawing, interpreting the art, dance, and music.
REVIEWS
“With a framework of only a few instructions, one is encouraged to reach inside oneself to scribble and colour shapes on a large piece of paper, going where-ever the mood and meandering pencil takes you. The Musician and Dancer then confer, putting their own honed skills, energy and a name to what is about to be performed.
A totally unique interpretation of one’s scribbled page unfolds with physical and mental dexterity. The artists are truly in sync, which weirdly enough is received as a glorious gift to the scribbler through their original music and choreography. ”
‘Scrùbi’ Review
“Jake and Anita did an incredible performance in front of 40 children aged between 5 - 12 years at our after school care programme . Jake’s music and Anita’s dance fully engaged the children who were mesmerised by their talents. They also showed that they have a real strength in incorporating children’s creativity into the story they tell through music and dance. A very talented couple and their performance was like nothing I have every seen before Thank you Jake and Anita”
